Searching Cass County Criminal Dockets
Start remotely with the Nebraska JUSTICE one-time case search. Misdemeanor, ordinance, traffic-related criminal, and felony preliminary matters belong to County Court, so pick County Court and Cass. A bound-over felony is different. Its later trial-level register sits in District Court, so run the search again there. The service can display a case summary, parties and attorneys, costs and payments, a Register of Actions, and public document images when they exist.
Enter a full party name first. Add case type, year, judge, or case number only if you need to narrow things down. Remember that this searches parties, not witnesses. A middle initial or an odd spelling can change everything. The state charges $17 for a one-time search, even one that returns nothing, caps results at a 30-record maximum, and keeps results available for three calendar days. Fresh Cass County filings can take time to appear. An empty screen does not mean no case exists.
- Select the correct Cass County court before entering a name or number.
- Use the party name and narrow by CR type, year, or court only when the result set needs it.
- Confirm the caption, party role, court, county, and complete case identifier before reading the register.
- Read the newest Register of Actions entry, then check the separate court calendar for a future setting.
- Ask the matching clerk for a specific record or certified copy when the public result is not enough.
Note: JUSTICE needs JavaScript to run. If a temporary server error appears, the state advises waiting 10 to 15 minutes before trying again.
Cass County Criminal Case Searches
Picking the court is a fact, not a guess. Get it wrong and the search fails. The JUSTICE form lets you search by party name, individual or entity, court type, county, case type or subtype, year, judge, attorney, judgment date, and case number. County alone is not the advised filter. A known case number is the strongest tool. Copy it exactly rather than rebuilding it from memory.
The official JUSTICE search landing page lays out the one-time search route used for Cass County criminal docket work.
Keep the form in perspective. It is a search gateway, not a criminal-history certificate, so confirm anything you find at the court and case level.
Inside a Cass County Criminal Docket
A Cass County criminal result opens with case-summary fields. The Register of Actions follows in date order. Check the court and county first. From there the public record can show the caption, case type, judge, opening and status details, parties, counsel, financial fields, filed actions, and any available document image. One caution matters. A charge is only an accusation. Without a later plea, verdict, dismissal, judgment, or sentencing entry, the docket shows no outcome.
The official Nebraska case-detail demonstration walks through the public case-summary and register layout. It does not borrow a live Cass County defendant record.
That pattern of header, parties, financial details, and dated actions is the sequence worth inspecting in any Cass County criminal record. It is the map for reading the whole entry.
| Case identifier | Use the court, Cass county number, type, year, and sequence together. A published format model is C13-CR-YY-######; use the exact number the court displays. |
|---|---|
| Charge and parties | Look for the offense wording, party role, counsel, and count information rather than translating an unfamiliar abbreviation. |
| Register events | Read dated filings, appearances, motions, orders, continuances, and image or detail links in order. |
| Setting information | A register entry may point to a hearing, but the public calendar and clerk confirmation are better checks for a future date. |
| Disposition | A plea, verdict, dismissal, judgment, or sentence must be read with the relevant entry or order for context. |
Cass County Felony Docket Transfers
Cass County Court owns the preliminary stage of a felony. Bind it over and everything changes. The county file moves electronically through JUSTICE to the Cass District Court clerk, and the district case becomes the real trial-level criminal docket. This transfer explains why a Cass County search stuck on County Court can end too soon. The county register keeps the preliminary activity. The district register carries the felony's later history.
| Cass criminal stage | Where to look | Useful register evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Misdemeanor, ordinance, or preliminary felony | County Court and JUSTICE County Court/Cass | Complaint, appearance, bond, preliminary setting, or bind-over entry |
| Felony after bind-over | District Court and JUSTICE District Court/Cass | New or linked case identifier, arraignment, motions, plea, trial, or sentence |
| Appeal | Trial register and the appellate court record | Notice of appeal or record-transmission entry |
The county-court felony transfer rule spells out the electronic transfer after bind-over. Nothing in it erases the Cass County preliminary record.
How a Criminal Case Moves
A Cass County criminal register can record the progression from initial accusation to final court action: Filing → Arraignment → Pretrial → Plea or Trial → Disposition → Sentencing. County Court often holds the early activity for misdemeanor and preliminary felony matters. The correct court continues to record motions, settings, orders, and financial events as the case develops.
Read every phase in time order. An arraignment or plea entry is a procedural marker. A signed judgment or sentencing order, when public, gives the final terms. Dismissals vary too. One can cover a single count or the whole case. Treat a bond forfeiture, capias, or warrant line as a prompt to confirm current status with the court, never as a fixed condition.
Cass County Drug Court Docket
Cass County runs an Adult Drug Court within the Second Judicial District. It is a problem-solving program tied to an underlying criminal case. It is not a public search category of its own. For case-index purposes, JUSTICE remains the route. Participation may surface in an order. A public news item is another possibility. Still, a docket label alone should never lead anyone to assume details about treatment, health, eligibility, or participants.
The Cass Adult Drug Court local rule sets out the program's judicial structure.
The local rule supplies the court-program context. For the case itself, the underlying Cass County criminal register is still the record to inspect.
Courts That Hold Criminal Dockets
Cass County Court and Cass District Court share the same courthouse complex. But the two keep separate criminal record layers. Clerk Magistrate Konia K. Fries holds the County Court records. Those cover misdemeanors, traffic, ordinances, and felony preliminary hearings. Brook McConnaughey, Cass County Clerk of the District Court, keeps the district criminal register and case file. That role starts once a felony transfers. One more office causes confusion. The county administrative clerk is separate and does not keep the court docket.

The Cass County Court and Cass District Court pages spell out each court's criminal duties and clerk channels. Nebraska rules also allow in-person electronic access through courthouse terminals. Cass does not publish the terminal location, so call the right room first.
Cass County Criminal Register Terms
Nebraska labels its chronological list of case events a Register of Actions. That label matters. It is not the case summary. That identifies the case. The case file is different too; it holds the actual documents. Reading a Cass County criminal docket gets easier once you know these layers. Shorthand you do not recognize should go to the clerk. Do not guess.
- Arraignment
- A criminal proceeding where the charge and plea or procedure are addressed.
- Preliminary hearing
- A County Court hearing on whether a felony matter proceeds to District Court.
- Bound over
- The transfer of a felony case from the county layer to the district layer after the preliminary stage.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome, such as a dismissal, plea, judgment, or other closure.
- Continuance or reset
- A change to a hearing date that should be followed by a later setting or clerk confirmation.

Sealed Dockets and Public Access
What can the public actually see in Cass County? Electronic access may cover indexes, case summaries, Registers of Actions, public images, calendars, and judgment or order summaries. None of that is guaranteed. Juvenile matters, sealed or confidential records, protected personal or financial information, and some public-image fields can stay off limits. An index entry can still show up. A missing image may simply be an older paper file that was never converted.
Need one public document in particular? Use form CC 3:29, listing the court, case number, document, and date. The form covers electronic or mailed copies and certification requests. A broad Nebraska Public Records Act request follows the custodian and court policy. Transcripts and county audio go through a separate reporter or audio process. Older Cass records may need routing through the clerk or State Archives.
Filing differs from docket access. Nebraska Judicial Branch eFiling is the filing and service channel for attorneys and registered users. It is not a public criminal search tool. For a Cass District Court record, the local office lists fax 402-296-9345. Ask the clerk first whether that fax line accepts a particular records request.
Access rules: Nebraska Court Rule §1-805 describes public electronic court-record access and restrictions. Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 provides the state public-record inspection and response framework. Nebraska's court-records search policy permits staff help with identifying information and specific records, not a broad no-record certification.
Note: A public search result or an uncertified image is no substitute for a clerk-certified copy when the document must be authenticated.
Cass County Criminal Docket Scale
How big is the criminal docket in Cass County? The FY2025 Cass County Court report counts 954 misdemeanor cases and 146 felony-category cases. That covers the July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 reporting period. The 146 figure covers the County Court category and its preliminary layer. It is not a Cass-only District Court felony total. Scale is all these numbers give you. They say nothing about the status or outcome of any single case.
Those Cass County totals come from the public FY2025 County Court caseload report. For one specific case, the current register, the calendar, and the clerk beat any annual report.
